Background of the Study
Tree-planting initiatives have gained global recognition as a vital strategy for combating environmental degradation, restoring ecosystems, and mitigating climate change. In Nigeria, deforestation, desertification, and biodiversity loss are major environmental challenges that threaten agriculture, water resources, and livelihoods. Corporate tree-planting programs have emerged as a collaborative effort between businesses and communities to restore degraded lands, improve air quality, and enhance ecological balance.
These programs not only contribute to environmental restoration but also align with corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives, enhancing the public image of organizations. However, the effectiveness of such initiatives often depends on factors such as program design, community involvement, and long-term maintenance. This study evaluates the impact of corporate tree-planting programs on environmental restoration in Nigeria, exploring their contributions and challenges.
Statement of the Problem
Despite increased corporate involvement in tree-planting programs, the scale of environmental restoration in Nigeria remains inadequate to address deforestation and land degradation. Challenges such as poor program implementation, lack of community engagement, and limited monitoring mechanisms undermine the effectiveness of these initiatives. This study investigates the impact of corporate tree-planting programs on environmental restoration and identifies strategies to improve their outcomes in Nigeria.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the impact of corporate tree-planting programs on environmental restoration in Nigeria.
To identify challenges in the implementation of corporate tree-planting programs.
To recommend strategies for enhancing the effectiveness of corporate tree-planting programs in Nigeria.
